Le Parc

The triptych La prairie, Les fleurs, and L’arbre is a meditation on place, memory, and the layered beauty of nature. Created through the technique of double exposure, these works weave together multiple perspectives of Claude Moore Park in Sterling, Virginia — not only its vibrant late-summer meadows, where fields glow with golden Coreopsis, but also its deeper historical resonances.

The park holds within it the 18th-century Lanesville Historic District and the storied Vestal’s Gap Road, a pathway once trodden by General Braddock’s army under the command of George Washington during the French and Indian War. The double exposures serve as visual palimpsests, layering blossoms, fields, and trees with both time and memory. In La prairie, expanses of wild meadow breathe with openness and light; Les fleurs celebrates intimate bursts of floral color, suggesting renewal and persistence; and L’arbre anchors the series with strength and rootedness, symbolizing resilience across centuries. Together, they form a conversation between the ephemeral and the eternal.

That La prairie was awarded 2nd Place in the Advanced Natural Landscapes category at the Friends of Claude Moore Park’s 15th Annual Photography Expo affirms the work’s resonance — not only as an aesthetic exploration, but also as a tribute to a beloved landscape where nature and history remain inextricably entwined.
